Sarah D. Nelson, MD, FACOG

Dr. Nelson

Dr. Sarah Nelson is a native Texan who has recently returned to her beloved home state. After completing her undergraduate training at Baylor University, Dr. Nelson traveled to Grenada, where she attended St. George’s University School of Medicine. She finished her clinical training in northern New Jersey and completed residency at St. Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston, New Jersey.  Following completion of her residency, Dr. Nelson worked as an attending obstetrician & gynecologist at St. Barnabas. Dr. Nelson has now happily settled in the Houston area where she resides with her husband.

Dr. Nelson met her husband during medical school in Grenada. They participated in multiple clinics for the local people of the island, and it was then that she realized she had a heart for working with the people.  During her residency, she was able to participate in medical mission trips, including a trip to Haiti as a chief resident.  While in Milot, Haiti, she and her husband were members of a multidisciplinary team which performed many surgeries and treated countless women.  Dr. Nelson and her husband enjoy traveling and discovering new places and are planning future medical mission trips together.

Dr. Nelson also underwent training in advanced laparoscopy and robotic surgery.  She is fortunate to use these skills to perform minimally invasive gynecologic surgery.  Although it appears that these two experiences during residency are very different or even opposed, Dr. Nelson believes that they have made her a well rounded physician that can take care of wide variety of patient needs.  Dr. Nelson considers it a privilege to care for women and knows that she is blessed to play a pivotal role in her patient’s lives.
