Can I Get Botox® and Fillers at the Same Time?

When it comes to choosing an aesthetic treatment for skin aging, Botox® and dermal fillers are often the top contenders. And it’s not hard to understand why. Both of these cosmetic injections can provide flawless skin almost instantly with no recovery time needed.

If you find yourself dealing with unwanted signs of aging such as fine lines and wrinkles, Botox and fillers are both great options for rejuvenating your skin. But, how do you know which one is right for you? Or should you even do both?

At the Center for Women’s Health Richmond in Sugar Land and Richmond, Texas, our women’s health team understands that smooth and youthful skin can help you feel your very best, which is why we offer both Botox and fillers. This month’s blog focuses on these treatments and how to know when to choose Botox, fillers, or both.

Explaining Botox and fillers

Although Botox and fillers can do similar things, these two injections are very different from one another.

Botox is a brand name for a neuromodulator that can temporarily block nerve signals to your facial muscles. Once the targeted muscle has been injected with Botox, it can no longer contract in response to the facial expressions you use everyday that are leading to wrinkle formation.

Eventually, your skin begins to soften and relax, leading to a reduction in wrinkles. Botox is best used for fine lines such as crow’s feet, forehead lines, and lines between your eyebrows.

Fillers, on the other hand, are made of hyaluronic acid or similar substances. They don’t freeze muscles but rather fill in areas that are shallow or thin due to age. Popular areas treated with fillers include laugh lines and thinning lips.

Should you get Botox, fillers, or both?

If you have a singular concern such as just laugh lines or solely forehead lines, you can choose the injection that best fits your aesthetic goals. But, for a total facial makeover, you may want to consider combining the two treatments.

Because Botox and fillers do different things and have different ingredients, they complement each other very well. While fillers address static wrinkles that form from a decrease in collagen and elastin, Botox takes care of dynamic wrinkles that stem from constant facial movement.

If you decide that you’d like to get both Botox and fillers, our team can administer those injections in the same appointment. Filler results should be immediate, and you can watch your Botox results develop fully over the next 30 days.
